Peace Pieces

There are days where I feel touched. I know that sounds both crazy and a little gross, but there's something about all the horrible garbage I put myself through on a daily basis, and when that is assuaged for a short period of time thanks to an act of kindness, or a nice moment, or the right kind of drunk, I feel this sense of quiet and peace and it is as if someone has reached into a vital part of me and cradled it. I feel at home, and safe and like everything's going to turn out for the better. I've been able to hold onto it for long periods of time, but sometimes it goes away for a decent length and I forget. It came back today, after such an absence and I feel truly blessed. hahaha hashtag blessed. It comes off stupid but it's the best way of putting it. That level of gratefulness that's in line with miracles. Like you didn't deserve it in the first place.

Shift

Feeling a crash coming on as the week swells up and over. I could sleep for days, the pull is so strong. Flashes of warmth, the self fluctuates rapidly. I am the very distant body, pulsing quasar, signaling at the edge of visible space. Speeding away faster and faster, while reaching out with all the light I can muster.

Grievin' Keel

I know it's a cop out, but some of these busy days are hard to even begin the effort. Here's another image poem:

“Plummet” based on the image of a falling star
These are the days
I feel like Lucifer
hurled forth from the right hand
to boiling pits of thick tar
festering in searing ooze
wings caked in magma
the fallen star of God’s Grace
crushed by the pressure
of man in a swirling
metal core. Left to
contemplate the veins
that spider my eyelids
and where they went wrong.
I was the shining semblance.
I was brilliance incarnate.
I was airy light and a
dancer on cosmic radiation.
Now I am all solid,
an eyeless cavern slug,
feeling in the dark inch
by inch into the vastness.

Haiku of the Day:
Careening through clouds
the wide-eyed martians brace for
watery impact

A Weight

There's a terrible tension deep in my chest that's been building ever since I got here. It's like I'm allergic to the air and every so often my whole being closes up and forgets itself. The weight of a supreme and irrevocable loss presses in and holds tight. How did I get here?

Yikes.

Ooooook. I think it's time to make a change.

Haiku of the Day:
I am the flayed man,
Back peeled open in red blooms,
Raw as my birthday

Blooming

This section needs more direction. It's served as a "brain dump," as my brother put it, and a place to post my workout results and creative stuff from last year. But now I'm craving the structure that sticks together the other parts of the posting. Here are potential ideas:

-Free write on a topic: Similar to the typical brain dump I've been doing but I give myself a jumping off point.
-Do a specific thing for each day of the week: I like this one because there's 7 different directions I can mix it up in. The only problem is that some days I really don't have the time/don't feel up to a huge post.
-Explore other poetry forms
-Memory Dump Take inspiration from a word or a Rory's Story Cube and write about the first memory I draw from it. I've enjoyed this exercise in the past, but I tend to delve super personal, so the public forum might prove a challenge to keep it appropriate.
-Tell a short story based off of either the drawing or project
-Talk from the perspective of an inanimate object
-Write a ten minute play over the course of a few weeks
-Do a recurring serial with a specific character

May pick one for tomorrow!

Farts and Faces

Short post. Wonderful saturday with lots of running and cooking and an ice bucket over the head. Wish there were more hours in the day of course. As an update, it's day 9 of my 100 miles in August and I'm on track with 34 miles under my belt. Here's to getting/keeping up with ridiculously high expectations!

Haiku of the Day:

from foot to coverlet yarn
