The Beginning of the Middle

Today's Haiku
A decade gone by
where my adult life began
middle age follows

Today's Workout
Running: 4.32 miles

What's this? Some actual writing besides the haikus? How novel!

Yes it's that time of year again. I've been revitalized by the season of resolution. Plans, they brew within me as I pass the halfway point from my sixth year of...improvement? Projects? You would think I'd have a name for it by now. Aims maybe? Eh. Perhaps I'll never figure it out.

So my year so far hasn't been great, goal-wise. As I started a new job in April, my mind and energies have been sapped. I've finally managed to get all my drawings up to date here and on the tumblr site. All the ones right up to the end of September. I sorta I took Q4 off.

Just a few things will change:
-I'm going back to writing something on the top. I like it.
-As much fun as writing out the Today's Workout section with creative captions on non-workout days, I'm going to stop it unless I actually get things done.

Honestly most of the things are "internal" and won't show up here.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Avuncular

Today, my brother and his wife had a baby.

I want to write more about it but...I don't know. The feelings are like an electric fog surrounding me. I can only catch little wisps -- pride, hope, fear, excitement, love -- before other bits come flooding in.

I lack the eloquence to paint that picture.

COME ON GUYS

Ok now it's starting to get a little annoying. Merriam-Webster did it AGAIN! A repeat word, five years later (post here) I mean, that's just sloppy guys. Don't you have a big spreadsheet you can hit "Ctrl + F" for the words you're looking to post for that day and go "oh sh*t, looks like we did that one already...I guess we'll just have to pick from the QUARTER MILLION WORDS LEFT IN THE F*CKING ENGLISH LANGUAGE!"

*sigh*

Ok I'm cool.

No I'm not. THEY DO A PODCAST EVERY DAY ABOUT THE WORD!! HOW ARE THEY NOT CATCHING THIS SH*T? THEIR REPUTATION IS BASED ON BEING A GOOD MANAGER OF INFORMATION!! WTF M-W?!?!

Get some intern to put together a spreadsheet with each word on it. If you get an eager one, you could knock that shit out in two days, a week, tops. Done. Hire me Merriam-Webster. I look at your dumb site all the time anyways.

Snapping the Unbroken Line

I've been writing three pages a day on a website called 750words.com and today I woke up and realized I didn't finish from yesterday. I lost a streak of over 580 days. It was a blow, I can't deny it. I mourned the loss. But only for about 15 minutes because it transitioned quickly into relief. I didn't realize how much weight I was carrying.

This makes me think about the pictures and I've decided to stop them at the end of the month. Go back to just haikus and maybe little things of writing here or there. We'll see where the wind takes me.

Catching Up

I really need a haircut. It just feels like I don't have the time. What is that? I know I have the time. We all have time. Why does it feel like there isn't time for anything?

Ugh I'm cutting this short because I've convinced myself I need to be doing other things for the sake of - you guessed it - time.

Pretty Balls

Orchids are named after the shape of their roots, which resemble the male gonads, called orchis in Greek.

A reminder that flowers are just colorful sex organs that we cut off, plop in standing water and stick our noses in.

Dictionary Disappointment

Holy crap Merriam-Webster had their first repeat word since I've been using it as inspiration for my pictures!! One of my favorites from back in 2014, "Pell-mell" from almost exactly five years ago.

Here's the link to the old post. I ramble about why I love fall and show off a crude soap carving.

I'm just posting the old picture. Can't improve on a classic!

Toofys and Noseys

Can we bring back "belly itcher" as a term for someone lazy? Like with "We want a pitcher and not a belly itcher"? The phrase just...tastes good.

Containing Multitudes

According to geneticists, every human on earth from European descent can claim lineage to Charlemagne.

In fact, every human on earth shares a common single ancestor as early as 1400 BC. Somewhere in Asia, apparently.

It reminded my of this video that just came out a couple days ago...

Bellyfull Tilt

Heading to see the in-laws (and aunt in-law) in Williamsburg at dawn tomorrow. Not sure what's in store but I'm prepping for the drive alone. I often forget that the first time I drove the car we have now it was from Boston to DC with a jungle of plants in the backseat.

At that point, the trip was the longest I had driven in 5 years.

Colorful Activities

Home alone for a couple days while Emily and her parents chill in Williamsburg. I'll be heading out to see them Saturday.

Put in a Breather

Work has started to sap most of my energy so updating this blog has fallen off. My hope is to establish some additional habits but the implementation has been rocky.

We'll see. There could be a scale back in the near future for my sanity.
